If only caves could talk...... Well, at the National Showcaves Centre, they really do. Our story spans millions of years, from the dawn of time to the present day, and gives you an intriguing insight into how life has evolved on Earth. You can travel back to prehistoric times where you'll come face to face with a fearsome T-Rex and over 100 other giants in the award-winning dinasaur park. Did you know a T-Rex could eat 500 pounds or 230kg of meat in just one bite? From the incredible archaelogical evidence that's been unearthed here, we've created what life would have been like for your ancient ancestors in the Iron Age. How did they cook? How did they fasten their clothes without zips or velcro? And how did they create beautiful and complicated metalwork such as swards, shields and daggers? At the National Showcaves Centre, there are attractions for all the family, ranging from history in action to calm refreshment. And there are so many things for the children to enjoy. As well as the Showcaves, there is the Dinosaur Park, Shire Horse Centre and not forgetting our superb adventure playground and Jurassic Karting track - offering more fun - all undercover. 3 award winning showcaves - Dan-yr-ogof Cave, Bone Cave and Catherdral Cave. When y ou enter the first one you are following in the footsteps of an intrepid pair of borthers. In 1912, Jeff and Tommy Morgan, local farmers, squeezed through a tiny passage and entered Dan-yr-Ogof Cave, Little did they know that their discoveery would be enjoyed by many millions of people. Now you can go into this incredible cave and relive the borthers' experiences as they talk you through their journey. They'll tell you what they found, how they lit their way with candles, and why they plotted their route through the cave by marking the sand with arrows. In 1953 Cavers discouvered the stunning Cathedral Cave, Never in their wildest dreams did they imagine that their efforst would lead them into one of Britain's largest showcave passages. The owe-inspiring tinale to this most beautiful of natural wonders is the Dome of St Paul's. Here a lake is fed by two cascading waterfalls, that you will walk between. The Bone Cave is so named because over 42 human skeletons have been found there, many dating back over 3,000 years to the Bronze Age. The cave now contains a number of award winning exhibits illustrating man's involvement with caves and the animals that were once found in caves. Where did all the dinosaurs go? 65 Million years ago, the dinosaurs suddenly disappeared from the Earth. Scientists think they were wiped out after a giganic meteor crashed into our planet. Did the meteor set off volcanoes? Wasthe sun blocked out by the clouds of dust and ash thrown miles into the air by eruptions that turned the sky black? And did the lack of sunlight stop the dinosaurs' plant food from growing and turn the Earth into a cold, cheerless wasteland? And did all the dinosaurs really become extinct? Some say the legendary Loch Ness Monster is a prehistoric plesiosaur that survived in the deep waters of this remote Scottish Loch. So who knows what you might find hidden in the heart of the Brecon Beacons? Visit one of the Worlds Largest Dinosaur Parks and be amazed. The award-winning Dinosaur Park is one of the largest in the world. Come face to face with a 30 foot long (10 mtrs). Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Brochiosaurus the size of a bus. The park has over 100 life-sized replicas of some of the most amazing prehistoric creatures that ever walked the earth. 24 HR Information Line 01639 730801.
